Details above come from our job records for this project.

This 2019 Volvo XC60 T5 Inscription came into our Kirkland shop at 59,905 miles for a Euro basic service. The multi-point inspection that comes with it found a damaged brake hose, a weak battery and no record of the transmission fluid ever being changed.

What the inspection found

The flexible brake hose at the right front wheel was twisted and kinked. Our tech rated it red, the most urgent rating on our inspection, and recommended replacing it and flushing the brake fluid. The second photo shows the left front hose on the same car for comparison.

The battery failed its load test. The tester read 332 cold cranking amps against an 850 CCA spec, 41% of its rating.

The battery load test: 332 CCA, 41% of the 850 CCA spec. The tester’s verdict was Replace Battery.

We found no service record of the transmission or drivetrain fluid being changed, so we recommended a fluid change. The cabin air filter was also rated red.

The work performed

  • Right front brake hose and brake fluid flush: $500–$750. Installed a genuine Volvo brake hose, then flushed the brake fluid from the master cylinder, calipers and lines with new DOT 4 fluid, bled the air out and road tested. More on our brake repair work and our brake fluid flush.

  • Battery replacement and registration: $350–$525. Replaced the battery with a new AGM battery and performed the battery reset so the car recognizes the new one. See our battery replacement page.

  • Transmission fluid service: $200–$350. Drained the fluid, measured how much came out, refilled with new fluid, then checked and set the level with the engine running and test drove. Details on our transmission fluid service.

  • Euro basic service: $200–$350. Oil and filter change with full synthetic 0W-20 and a Mann filter, tire rotation, brake inspection, fluid top-off, tire pressures and the full multi-point inspection.

  • Cabin air filter: $80–$130. See our cabin air filter replacement page.

What we recommended but didn’t do

The dash showed “Volvo On Call service required”. Our inspection notes that some connected features may be limited while that message is on, and that replacing the backup battery in the car’s telematics module (the VCM) clears it. The quote covered a genuine Volvo backup battery plus programming by a partner shop, in the $900–$1,275 range. The owner held off on this visit.

Everything else checked out: brake pads at 6mm on all four wheels, tires at 7/32” to 9/32”, engine air filter good, and no oil or coolant leaks.

What it cost

The visit landed in the $1,450–$2,050 range, completed October 2026. That covers the brake hose and fluid flush, the battery, the transmission fluid service, the Euro basic service and the cabin filter.

That range reflects a completed historical project, not a current quote.

Questions about this job

What was wrong with the brake hose?

The right front flexible brake hose was twisted and kinked. Our tech rated it red and recommended replacement with a fluid flush, and we installed a genuine Volvo hose.

Why flush the brake fluid when replacing one hose?

Replacing a hose opens the brake system. We flushed the fluid from the master cylinder, calipers and lines and bled out the air before the road test.

Why was the battery replaced?

It failed a load test at 332 CCA against an 850 CCA spec. We installed a new AGM battery and ran the battery reset afterward.

Was the “Volvo On Call service required” message fixed?

No. It needs a new backup battery for the telematics module plus programming. It was quoted, and the owner held off on this visit.

Do you service Volvos?
