What Happens at Your 30K, 60K, and 90K Mile Service

Those “30/60/90K” services on your maintenance schedule are not dealer upsells. They are the checkpoints that keep your car reliable, protect your warranty, and hold its resale value. Here is what actually happens at each milestone and why it matters, in plain English.
What “30/60/90K” even means
Manufacturers lay out a maintenance schedule in 30,000-mile steps. Each milestone bundles inspections and part replacements based on what tends to wear by that mileage. One thing worth clearing up: you do not have to visit the dealer to keep your warranty intact. You just have to keep up with the schedule at a qualified shop, and that is exactly what we do.
The 30,000-mile service
Mostly preventive, this is about catching wear early:
Engine air filter and cabin air filter
Brake inspection
Fluid inspection and top-offs (coolant, brake, transmission)
Tire rotation and alignment check
A general look at belts, hoses, and battery
The 60,000-mile service
A bigger milestone. Everything from the 30K visit, plus items that commonly come due around now:
Brake pads (often ready for replacement by here)
Transmission fluid service
Coolant flush
Spark plugs on some vehicles
Closer inspection of belts and hoses
Battery test
The 90,000-mile service
The most important one for long-term reliability. Along with the earlier checks:
Timing belt, if your engine uses one. This one is critical. A failed timing belt can cause major engine damage, so replacing it on schedule is far cheaper than ignoring it.
Water pump, often replaced at the same time as the timing belt
Spark plugs, if not already done
More thorough fluid services
Why skipping them costs more later
Scheduled maintenance is preventive by design. Small, planned services now keep you from big, surprise repairs later. Our approach is to tell you which items are actually due based on your mileage and how the car looks, not to run a generic checklist and replace parts that are still fine.
An honest approach to scheduled maintenance
We follow your manufacturer’s schedule, but our ASE Certified technicians inspect first and show you what is genuinely due before recommending it. You get upfront pricing and clear options. As a dealer alternative for Kirkland drivers, you get factory-schedule maintenance on foreign and domestic vehicles without the dealer markup, which is a big reason we have earned 150+ five-star reviews.
